PIANIST WANTED

Hidden Valley Church is currently looking for someone to play the piano in the weekly 10:30 AM Sunday morning services. The church is committed to having a variety of quality music in the worship services, as a part of leading people in passionate, heart-felt worship of our God and King. The pianist would be at the piano every week, and should be able to play traditional hymns with a creative musical style that goes beyond simply the “four-part harmony” printed in the hymnal. Although the worship service is varied, the usual situation is that the pianist would do three hymns or songs in each service. The church also employs a professional musician, Mr. Johnny Cowan, who sings and leads music from the guitar, and would sing and lead an additional song or two each week. The church is looking for someone who would be able to work with Mr. Cowan and also the trained operatic singer, Mr. Allen Whitesides, who leads and sings during hymns.

The pay will be $200 per month. While certain holidays are important times of worship (Christmas Eve and Easter) three Sundays “off” per year are appropriate. The pianist would not need to have any Presbyterian background, but as this is a leadership position, Christian faith is a consideration. For more information, email the pastor, Lee Mashburn, at hiddenvalleypc@mac.com, or leave a message at the church at 801-553-7144.

The pianist at Hidden Valley occupies an important position. Hidden Valley’s core beliefs on worship contain the following ideas:
1. Worship is all about a genuine encounter with God, and must have both depth and substance.
2. Christianity is both a modern religion and an ancient religion, and worship and worship music reflect this.
3. Worship music that contains a variety of styles and forms best reflects the true nature of the Christian church, which is called The Body of Christ, and is made up of all kinds of different ‘members.”
4. Music is an important element of worship, but worship is not defined by music. The proclamation of God’s Word rightly occupies the center focus of Christian worship.
